Who's Who at the Rally, and Serving with Style

Thursday, we had many events. 3 to be exact. at least they weren't all at the same time...
The day started with DeAnne finishing preschool. They held the annual bike ralley in honor of the Indy 500. and DeAnne was dressed to impress. When interviewed she told us the coat was a Colson original, layered over a Jenna HMD design. (Hand-Me-Down) She road her bike with gusto and dealt with traffic congestion as well as a preschool cheetah-coat-wearing diva can be expected.

We dashed from the ralley to the Cafe for lunch. Claire's second grade class had literally constructed a working restaurant, and we had seats reserved for 3. Claire was a server and did an excellent job delivering drinks and chatting up the customers. It was truely impressive to see that they had a menu, pricing, full staff, serving trays and stands to set them on. Customer service was excellent. Our waitress was a little stressed out, but she got all of our orders correct (there were 3 entrees to choose from with a choice of 3 soups or salad!) and we didn't have to wait a really long time. If you've ever watched Hell's Kitchen... I was kind of waiting for that, but they put the chefs on that show to shame. ;-)

Finally, that night, we were back at the school for Young Author night and Celebration of the Arts. Each child works on a book during the year, and then they are all displayed on tables for family and friends to view. The kids are a hoot. Each book has a place for reader comments, and so we spend a lot of time looking for books of friends, and then talking to parents of friends. Quite a social event.
Next door the art teacher has a project from each class on display. She has really given the kids some excellent exposure to different artists and styles. Claire's class had oil pastel drawings on display - she drew horses, no surprise there. Jillian had a modern art shape kind of drawing, and i have to think she was inspired through her knowledge of scrapbooking because she was the only kid who chose a white background, and therefore her page stood out like a light. and it was a great picture.
No pictures of this night because frankly we were pictured out. And its kind of really chaotic in the gym, where kids are running helter-skelter through the book tables.
