Holding Hands

I walked Claire to the bus today. It's a long story, really. All year I've been asking her to walk to the bus stop by herself. She just won't. She needs the company and I think the security. And its a hassle for me, because I have to make sure DeAnne is out of trouble and make myself presentable (not pajamas). So a lot of times I am grouchy and not liking this exercise in motherhood.
But the thing is, after we do all that and we're on our way, its enjoyable to walk with her. Today, I was enjoying our walk down the street and I mentioned to her that I was remembering when I would hold her hand when we walked together. And that she would probably not want to hold my hand in front of the other kids. For whatever reason, she said she didn't care and she wanted to hold hands. So I got to hold my 6 year old's hand. Probably for one of the last times because she has no patience for that anymore. I'm so glad I asked. It was sweet. I'm so glad I made that walk today. I wish I could hold her hand again. Maybe I'll ask her again when we're out walking somewhere.
